Nuclear envelope

چکیده
Do you have a favorite scientific journal? Although I have several favorites which illuminate my life, I am particularly fond of Cat News, a quarterly newsletter edited by noted conservationist Peter Jackson of IUCN. Cat News publishes short essays about new developments relating to non-domestic wild cat species, from lynxes to tigers to lions and snow leopards. Felid observations, conservation anecdotes, sightings in remote corners of the world, even wildlife trade prosecutions are described. Without the encumbrance of peer review, the articles describe phenomena, happenings, occasional science and stories around a group of species about which, a generation back, I became scientifically curious. Without these intrepid (often amateur) naturalists’ reports and muses, the genetic hypothesis that we inspect would not exist.

Condensins Exert Force on Chromatin-Nuclear Envelope Tethers to Mediate Nucleoplasmic Reticulum Formation in Drosophila melanogaster
Although the nuclear envelope is known primarily for its role as a boundary between the nucleus and cytoplasm in eukaryotes, it plays a vital and dynamic role in many cellular processes. Studies of nuclear structure have revealed tissue-specific changes in nuclear envelope architecture, suggesting that its three-dimensional structure contributes to its functionality. Despite the importance of t...
متن کاملComposition of the plant nuclear envelope: theme and variations.
The nuclear envelope is the hallmark of all eukaryotic cells, separating the nucleoplasm from the cytoplasm. At the same time, the nuclear envelope allows for the controlled exchange of macromolecules between the two compartments through nuclear pores and presents a surface for anchoring and organizing cytoskeletal components and chromatin. Although our molecular understanding of the nuclear en...
متن کاملFormation of the postmitotic nuclear envelope from extended ER cisternae precedes nuclear pore assembly
During mitosis, the nuclear envelope merges with the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), and nuclear pore complexes are disassembled. In a current model for reassembly after mitosis, the nuclear envelope forms by a reshaping of ER tubules. For the assembly of pores, two major models have been proposed. In the insertion model, nuclear pore complexes are embedded in the nuclear envelope after their forma...
متن کاملNuclear Membrane: Nuclear Envelope PORosity in Fission Yeast Meiosis
The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe undergoes closed mitosis but 'virtual nuclear envelope breakdown' at anaphase of meiosis II, in which the nuclear envelope is structurally closed but functionally open.
متن کاملThe dynamic nature of the nuclear envelope
In eukaryotes, chromosomes are encased by a dynamic nuclear envelope. In contrast to metazoans, where the nuclear envelope disassembles during mitosis, many fungi including budding yeast undergo "closed mitosis," where the nuclear envelope remains intact throughout the cell cycle. Consequently, during closed mitosis the nuclear envelope must expand to accommodate chromosome segregation to the t...
متن کاملNuclear Envelope: Torn Apart at Mitosis
The findings of two recent studies suggest a novel mechanism for nuclear envelope breakdown in which cytoplasmic dynein anchored on the outside of the nucleus generates tension, thus triggering tearing of the nuclear envelope.
